kagumi-bandung-kampung-daunBlind Cafe is not the only restaurant in Bandung with a unique touch. Bandung is a city wide-famous as the center of culinary delights, and as such it stands to reason that there is also a wide variety and great numbers of restaurants  or eating spots available in the city.

Obviously, amidst such numbers there are bound to at the very least one or two restaurants with unique concepts. The competition is very stiff and unique differentiation may be the key in getting ahead of the gang. Blind Cafe is one of those unique places, but it’s not the only one: Kampung Daun may also be a good contender for the list.

Kampung Daun is located in Lembang–the specific address is in Jl. Sersan Bajuri KM 4,7 / 88, Triniti Villas, Cihideung. The place obviously put its atmosphere at the forefront of its selling strength: this restaurant is situated conveniently in-between two naturally formed stone cliffs with a river flowing from Burangrang mountain. The guests themselves are seated inside some sort of bungalow (”saung“), which is quite comfortable all around. The “natural” feel is strong here, and with little adjustments other atmospheres such as “lovely” or “romantic” can easily be achieved.

No breakfast, unfortunately, for the restaurant only serves Lunches and Dinners. The price range is about Rp. 30.000,- to Rp. 50.000,- (about 3 to 5 US dollars), so it’s situated in a somewhat middle range (’middle range’ for us Indonesians anyways.) Reservation is somewhat recommended, since this restaurant is apparently quite in the demand. If you are so inclined, you can visit their website here.

However, a restaurant is not all about atmosphere, as the food presented is perhaps the most important factor of all. Unfortunately, however, this is where Kampung Daun fails to impress. Traditional food and beverages are the order of the day (perhaps to further enhance the ‘village’ atmosphere), but none of them are anything really special. Actually, scratch that–’anything really special’ is too much overblown: ‘not special at all’ is a more apt description. The quality is standard, the services are standard (even somewhat sub-par–some of the patrons occasionally do not appear to be very friendly), and aside from the atmosphere there’s nothing else to write home about.

Regardless, it is a good place to visit should you find yourself visiting Bandung. Expect the atmosphere, but don’t expect the food, and you’ll all set (oh, and bring some jacket too, the weather can be cold sometimes…)
