Grand Serela Hotel BandungThis is number three of KAGUM Hotels series of post. It is going to be a bit different this time. Whereas in the previous stories I retold my experiences of visiting two four stars Hotel, this time I am going to venture into a three stars KAGUM Hotels’ properties called Grand Serela Hotel Bandung. The Hotel is conveniently situated at L.L.R.E. Marthadinata Street number 56. L.L.R.E. Marthadinata is a street better known with the name Riau Street by the Bandung folks.

Since it is a three stars Hotel, the place is admittedly somewhat less luxurious compared to the places I have visited before, but does a less luxury place automatically translates into a less favorable Hotel experience?

The lobby level of the Hotel is one long spanning area with the front desk area, lounge, kids corner, a small merchandise shop, and the Hotel’s primary restaurant all connected together in one straight path. Although it doesn’t really give off a spacious atmosphere and obviously not as luxurious as any other four or five stars Hotels in Bandung, the Lobby is functional and decent enough for good, quick rest.

I was shown the most expensive room in this Hotel, the so called Regal Suite Room. Surprisingly enough, the rate they charged for the rooms here was quite high for a three stars Hotel—supposedly, the reason for this is that the Hotel almost always in high demand, with all of its rooms fully or nearly fully booked at a near consistent basis. I could understand the reasoning: despite its less-than-luxurious showing, the Hotel is, as I have stated before, in fact located in LLRE. Martadinata Street, more famously known amongst the locals and visitors as Riau Street (to be exact, Riau Street number 56.) Riau Street is unfortunately not the subject of this post (I will make a specialized post about it later) so I cannot talk much yet, but let’s just say that it is one of the most famous streets in Bandung thanks to its line-up of, yet again, Factory Outlets spread throughout.

I was pleasantly surprised by the room they showed me. The room was not very large so that it wasn’t jarring nor too small so that it would cramp my legs—in my own humble opinion, the size was just perfect. What struck me as odd was that I found myself liking this room better than the ones provided to me in Grand Seriti Hotel Bandung and in Banana Inn Hotel & Spa Bandung. I couldn’t really explain why, since the rooms back then at those two hotels were comparably by all means more luxurious and more extravagant—somehow, just somehow, this particular room just struck gold with me. And the bathtub in front of the bed was a unique and nice touch too… :)

As usual, I will detail the rest of the facilities of this Hotel in a different post.
